I went to book club tonight where they were discussing C.S. Lewis's Till We Have Faces. Information hadn't been circulated about book club, so I didn't know when it was (though I knew from October what they'd be reading). Sunday night I found out it would be tonight, but I didn't have time to read the book. We had once owned the book, but it isn't on our bookshelf any longer.
I went for the treats (our book club treats are the best), and to give input for the next few books. I sat through the book discussion. The lady leading the discussion gave a fairly thorough synopsis for those of us who hadn't read it or hadn't finished it. It sounded alright, but I didn't think I'd missed much.
As we got into choosing the next books I pulled up Goodreads on my iPod. In scrolling through books, I saw that I had indeed read Till We Have Faces— and gave it three stars, no less.
Thank goodness for Goodreads, reminding me what I've read. Not remembering character names or complete plot details I can understand. Forgetting the fact that I've read the book at all, even when I hear the plot? That's troubling. Aren't I too young for this problem?
(We're reading The Mansion, Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln's Killer and Summer of the Swans over the next three months. First two based on my recommendations. Well, the first based on mine and President Monson's. I figured my good-intentions of reading it will be solidified if I'm accountable somewhere.)
